Retail Associate
Ms. Moxie's Moon Shop | Old Town Alexandria, VA
Part-Time
Onsite
$14–$17/hour
Looking for a retail job that's a little different? At Ms. Moxie's Moon Shop, you might help someone pick out a gift—and five minutes later find yourself explaining how a menstrual disc works.
We're looking for warm, curious and dependable Retail Associates who want to help us make menstrual health easier to understand and easier to talk about.
About Ms. Moxie's
Ms. Moxie's is a menstrual-health boutique and community resource serving people from their first period through menopause.
That means our customers can range from an 8-year-old preparing for their first period to an 80-year-old navigating changing health needs—and we want every one of them to feel comfortable walking through our door.
You absolutely do not need to be a menstrual-health expert. We'll teach you.
What matters more is that you're curious, willing to learn, comfortable talking about bodies without judgment, and genuinely interested in helping people.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You'll help customers:
• Find products that fit their needs and preferences
• Understand how different products work
• Compare pads, tampons, cups, discs, period underwear and other options
• Find educational and community resources
• Feel comfortable asking questions they may have been embarrassed to ask somewhere else
Sometimes customers share personal experiences with us. We don't diagnose medical conditions or pretend to have all the answers. We listen, provide appropriate product education, and help people find qualified resources when their needs go beyond what we can provide.
And because we're a small business, everyone pitches in.
You'll also:
• Operate the register
• Restock merchandise
• Keep displays organized
• Help receive and label inventory
• Organize the stockroom
• Complete opening and closing tasks
• Keep the shop clean
• Help set up and break down events
• Occasionally help with community pop-ups
YOU MIGHT BE OUR PERSON IF YOU...
• Are genuinely curious about menstrual health
• Love learning and sharing what you've learned
• Are warm, approachable and nonjudgmental
• Can talk comfortably with kids, teens, parents and older adults
• Don't make assumptions about someone's body, gender or experience
• Know when to say, “I don't know, but let's find out”
• Are comfortable discussing bodies using accurate language
• Are dependable
• Notice what needs to be done and pitch in
A DIFFERENT KIND OF PART-TIME JOB
Retail experience is great, but it isn't everything. Experience or interest in health education, public health, social work, education, reproductive health, community organizations, disability advocacy, libraries, nonprofits or similar fields could also make you an amazing fit.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Customers leave feeling a little more knowledgeable, a little more confident and a lot less embarrassed to talk about their bodies.
The shop stays welcoming, organized and running smoothly.
And you keep learning right alongside the people who walk through our door.
If you've ever thought, “Why didn't anyone teach us this stuff?” there's a good chance we'd like to meet you.

Marketing & Events Coordinator
Ms. Moxie's Moon Shop | Alexandria, VA / Hybrid
Part-Time | Approximately 10–15 hours/week + occasional events
$14–$20/hour
JOB DESCRIPTION
We have a lot of ideas and we're looking for the person who loves turning ideas into actual things that happen.
Ms. Moxie's Moon Shop is looking for a creative, highly organized Marketing & Events Coordinator to help us tell our story, fill our events, grow our community and manage the behind-the-scenes details that make all of that possible.
This is not just a social media job.
ABOUT MS. MOXIE'S MOON SHOP
Ms. Moxie's is a menstrual-health boutique and community resource in Old Town Alexandria serving people from their first period through menopause.
We sell products, but a big part of what we really do is help make conversations about menstrual health easier to have. That means our marketing is a little different, too.
We talk about periods, vulvas, pelvic floors, menopause, pain, bodies and other subjects that aren't always treated like normal topics—even by social media platforms.
You don't need to already be a menstrual-health expert. We can teach you the subject matter.
We're looking for someone who is excited about the mission, curious enough to keep learning, and creative enough to help us reach people without watering down what we're trying to say.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Marketing
• Maintain our social media and editorial calendar
• Develop content ideas and campaigns appropriate for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
• Write captions and marketing copy
• Create graphics using Canva or similar tools
• Schedule and publish content
• Create email newsletters and campaigns
• Maintain email lists
• Monitor basic marketing performance
• Help us learn what's working—and what isn't
Video
• Develop the idea
• Create the talking points
• Set up the shoot
• Tell people where to stand
• Film it
• Edit it
• Caption it
• Post it
Bonus points if you love turning one 30-minute filming session into weeks of usable content.
Events
You'll help take an event from “We should do this!” to people actually walking through the door. That includes:
• Coordinating with practitioners and community partners
• Gathering event information
• Writing event descriptions
• Creating website listings and graphics
• Promoting events through social media and email
• Posting to community calendars
• Asking partner organizations to share with their networks
• Monitoring registrations
• Managing attendee communications
• Coordinating event logistics
YOU MIGHT BE A GREAT FIT IF...
• You are both creative AND organized
• You love a checklist almost as much as a good Instagram Reel
• You're a strong writer
• You can manage multiple projects without dropping details
• You take initiative rather than waiting for instructions
• You know your way around Canva and social media
• You can shoot and edit basic short-form video
• You're curious about how social platforms treat health and reproductive-health content
• You care about inclusive, accessible communication
• You're excited to learn about menstrual health
• You can communicate comfortably with everyone from community partners to customers
• You believe marketing can both grow a business and change a conversation
Experience in marketing, events, communications, nonprofits, community engagement or mission-driven small businesses is helpful.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
• Events get promoted before the last minute.
• Emails actually go out.
• Content happens consistently.
• Partners know what they need to share.
• Pop-ups are packed.
If you're the person who loves making the magic happen—and making it look effortless—we'd love to hear from you.
